Radio Formats

Radio Format

Genre

Documentary – Normally they cover a topic or subject where there is a mixture of commentary and sound pictures. People might use composed music when it comes to creating a radio documentary. If not, people just present it a straightforward journalistic type but at a greater deal. An example being a documentary on the Tiger, the presenter will talk about the animal giving facts and information, going on to interview lets say Elephant preservationists, while tiger sound effects can be heard in the background.

An Educational broadcast is a radio show designed to educate the members of the public. This could be education in anything from Science to Animation. Similar to Documentary but more serious in giving facts and information towards us all.

A Special Interest is a type of radio broadcast that only be listened to for one reason. An example can be a book reading or a live sports match being narrated

A Magazine genre is a broadcast that will discuss various topics though these usually align with a particular subject overview. If it was about film, they may talk about the director, the film, actors and music.

Formats
Presenter led is the format that is led by a presenter; who speaks throughout the documentary (intro/outro,  fact segments, interviews, = speaking directly to the audience). An example is my documentary about football in which I deal out commentary on the subject of incidents while making it look like I’m talking to the audience

Narrated is a format in which the person speaking is leaning more towards describing something that is currently happening, like the commentator over a game of sports.  This format will not often communicate directly to the audience, possibly only for a brief period as an intro.

Discussion is where a host of a radio show gathers several people to talk about a particular subject. In mine, I only had a discussion with one
